PREPARATION FOR INTERCULTURAL SERVICES AND MINISTRIES

East-West Center for Intercultural Studies(EWCIS) offers missionaries, cross-cultural workers, and church leaders the knowledge and tools they need for intercultural services and ministries. The program combines comprehensive biblical and theological resources with missiological discipline.

Students will understand the dynamic nature of the gospel, the missionary traits of the church, the deeply interwoven relationship between the gospel and culture, while manifesting a passion for reaching people to Christ in cross-cultural contexts.

Courses will be to be completed online or in virtual classes. Some courses can also be completed in a class room in Chiang Mai and at EWCIS’s regional campus. Studies at EWCIS may qualify for credit towards an MA degree in theological and intercultural studies from graduate schools associated with EWCIS.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the DIS program is to prepare student for specialized expertise in intercultural and its cognate disciplines, for leadership role in intercultural ministries, and for research and teaching

THE GOALS

  1. Prepare students to expertise in theories and practices on specialized intercultural and its cognate disciplines.
  2. Equip them for leadership role in intercultural ministries.
  3. Enable them to teach effectively in intercultural contexts.

FIELD-BASED PROGRAM

The DIS is a non-residential program with a flexible schedule. Courses are conducted in one-week intensive modules. Students take courses while remaining active in ministry. Some course will be completed online or in virtual classes. Research and Dissertation should be field-based, which will enhances students’ ministry. Students work closely with their supervisor who will advice and mentor them in all matters related to their study, field research, dissertation. Studies at EWCIS may qualify for credit towards an degree of DOCTOR OF INTERCULTURAL STUDIES from graduate schools associated with EWCIS.
